For the weekend 27th / 28th Feb 2016

It looks like it’s going to be a nice weekend in the Edinburgh area and there’s plenty of outdoors activities to be enjoyed. Any of Edinburgh’s 7 hills will bring pleasure and make you feel fit! In the city centre Castle Hill (which, is really an Old Town walk), Calton Hill (Monuments and close up City views) and Arthur’s Seat (for an overall view of Edinburgh) are wonderful walks and when you have completed your few hours exertion the city centre has no shortage of pubs, bistros and cafes to make you feel human again! To the south of the city centre a walk up Craiglockhart or Braid Hills offers a tranquil stroll with the buzz of the city ebbs away. One of my favourite hills, and again in the south of the city is Blackford Hill which, begins with a nice walk through The Hermitage. The views to Edinburgh (including one of the finest views of The Castle and Arthur’s Seat) are outstanding and this is achievable after an easy up hill hike. My local hill, Corstorphine Hill, is a peaceful walk amongst trees with views over the north of Edinburgh and includes Clermiston Tower, a memorial to Sir Walter Scott. The walk takes you to the perimeter fence of Edinburgh Zoo and has some great views of Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh is a fantastic city to walk in. Whether you want to take an easy stroll through the city centre or be a little more adventurous on one of our hills you will feel the better for it! Enjoy…
