Authentic Scotland Tour

 

A journey through cultural and historic Scotland.

On this tour of Scotland, you will meet local people who are passionate about what they do. We will travel from Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh to Argyll, the Highlands and Islands and into Perthshire looking at scenic beauty, history and culture. On this tour, you will taste some of the best food and drink in Scotland. You will enjoy authentic experiences only found in Scotland!

Day 1 - The city of Edinburgh. We will explore the city from its ancient beginnings to it's Georgian Splendour. We will spend the day looking at the Medieval Old Town, The Georgian New Town and villages and the port of Leith. We will also look at where the Romans encamped in Edinburgh. Lunch will be in a local restaurant away from the city centre.

Experiences today include a kiltmaker demonstration, a sporran maker and a bagpipe demonstration. Your day will finish up with an evening dinner at a restaurant that only uses Scottish produce and onto a traditional music pub for a pint and a whisky.

Overnight Edinburgh.

Day 2 - We will travel west of Edinburgh for an early morning visit of Stirling Castle. We will then look at the Wars of Independence sites including Bannockburn and Stirling Bridge. Our next stop is at a Haggis Making demonstration, and yes, lunch is included! Go on, you will love it! vegetarian options are available too. Our afternoon tour takes us to beautiful Loch Lomond where you can wander the bonny banks. We then travel into Argyll, where we will stop at Loch Fyne Ales and then continue to the loch side village of Inveraray. 

Experiences today include a haggis making demonstration. Loch Fyne Ales and dinner at the atmospheric George Hotel. The food here is excellent..

Overnight Inveraray.

Day 3 - We will spend the day in one of the richest prehistoric areas of Europe, Kilmartin Glen. The standing stones, stone circles and rock art in this part of Scotland is exquisite. Lunch is in the harbour town of Oban, where you have a wonderful choice of restaurants specialising in local food. We will then board the ferry to Isle of Mull for two nights.

Experiences today include ancient history, rock art and a visit to the locals favourite seafood shack in Oban.

Overnight Isle of Mull.

Day 4 - A day on the Isle of Iona and a visit to Ardalanish Weavers. The Isle of Iona is one of the most sacred isles in Scotland and is where St Columba established his monastery in the 6th Century, which became one of the most important in the British Isles. The sacred sites on Iona are a fascinating visit and a wonderful insight into early Christian life in Scotland. We will also visit Ardalanish weavers, where you can watch a demonstration. The products here are of the finest quality local wool.

Experiences today include Celtic and Christian historic sights and a visit to a local weaver.

Overnight Isle of Mull.

Day 5 - Morning visit to Tobermory where you can wander the colourful street on the harbour for local crafts. After this we will take the small ferry to Ardnamurchan for stunniung views of Coast and mountain in this stunning region of the Highlands. We will make a visit to Castle Tioram, spectacularly situated on its own island in Loch Moidart. We will then continue on to Lochaber for an overnight in a hotel with a fabulous restaurant.

Experiences today include Tobermory, Scenic ferry ride, wild highland scenery and an ancient castle.

Overnight Lochaber.

Day 6 - We will visit one of the most dramatic sights in all of Scotland, Glencoe. Here, we will look at the geology and history of this stunning glen. We will continue into lush Perthshire where you will have lunch at a rustic pub, visit one of the finest chocolatiers in the UK, visit an ancient church with one of the finest painted ceilings. We will then continue on to the charming town of Pitlochry.

Experiences today include Stunning scenery, Perthshire's green and rolling countryside, great food and chocolate.

Overnight Pitlochry.

Day 7 - Morning visit to Scone Palace. In the grounds is the crowning place of Scottish kings since earliest times. The palace is a wonderful visit too. Next is a visit to historic Dunkeld. An ancient town which has also become a foodie destination, Dunkeld Smoked Salmon is made here in the village. After a tasty lunch we will visit one of Perthshire's excellent whisky distilleries for a special tour and tasting.

Experiences today include a fine art collection, the best bakeries, our longest river and an excellent whisky distillery tour and tasting.

Overnight Pitlochry.

Day 8 - Transfer to Airport for departure flight.
